Negative Self Fulfilling Prophecy Examples

One of the most promising negative self fulfilling prophecy examples I know of can be explained with two words.  Know what they are?  Read this.

Self fulfilling prophecy

What is a prophecy?

A prophecy is a prediction or foretelling of what is to come.

What is a self-fulfilling prophecy?

It is the self-realization of the prediction or prophecy?

If I say I’m going to run a marathon in less than five hours and then do it I have self-fulfilled my prophecy.

On the other hand, if say I can’t run a marathon in less than five hours and I do nothing to achieve it, perhaps not run a marathon at all, it is also a self fulfilling prophecy.

Without getting too philosophical and over-thinking the concept, a self-fulfilling prophecy is the opposite of a self-defeating prophecy.

If I say I’m going to fail at a particular task or goal and continue to tell myself that I will fail and do everything that will cause me to fail, regardless of whether it’s intentional, but I succeed in the face of the negativity it is a self-defeating prophecy.

The negativity actually created a positive result.

I’m inclined to believe self-fulfilling prophecies are more common and realistic than self-defeating prophecies.

What do you think?

Negative self fulfilling prophecies

When talking to yourself, which are you more inclined to do, tell yourself you can or tell yourself you can’t?

Although I’ve made a conscious decision and do my best to make my self-talk positive, as much as I hate to admit it, I still can be very negative with myself.

As stated earlier, one of the most promising negative self-fulfilling prophecies I know of can be explained in two words.

The two words:

I can’t/I cannot

Confucius said:

“He who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually right.”

Henry Ford said:

“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t–you’re right.”

Some of my favorite examples

I can’t because:

I’m sure there are more.  Perhaps you can think of others.

What’s your prophecy?

What do you tell that person in the mirror?  What does that person in the mirror tell you?

Your Prophecy

Is your self-talk positive or negative?

Do you believe you can talk yourself into success or failure?

What actions or inactions are you taking or not taking?  What actions will you take today that will either positively or negatively affect your self-fulfilling prophecy?

Do you even have a prophecy whether it’s positive or negative?

Do you know what you want and where you want to go?  Do you know what it will take to get there?  Are you willing to do what it takes?  What’s motivating you to move forward?  What’s preventing you from moving forward?

My prophecy

I will live a long, healthy and prosperous life.  I will be my own boss and have the ability to work when and if I want.  I’m finding there are many ways to work from home and I am able to earn a living wherever I am in the world as long as there is an internet connection.

How long will I live?

Does anyone know for sure?

I’ve read that the human body is designed to last 120-140 years but that the reason most people don’t live that long is because of the way they live.

I’m doing my part to live a healthy and prosperous life until I’m at least 120.  That means at age 61 I’ve just begun the second half of my life.

How prosperous?

I will be able to not worry about money and that I will never outlive my money.

How do I plan to achieve such things?

In part, I am achieving it by doing exactly what I’m doing right now—writing this blog post like the countless others I’ve written and will write in the future.

I have entered the world of internet marketing.

My niches:

Baby boomer

My target market is the baby-boomer generation because that includes me and they are my people.  It doesn’t mean I will only do business with baby-boomers.  If someone can identify with who and what we are or wants to, they are more than welcome.

My motto in life and in business:  Honesty, Respect, Best Effort.

My slogan:  Plan your dream or prepare for a nightmare.

The name of my company is A Bulletproof Life Inc.

When I introduce myself to people or call them on the phone I tell them my name and that I’m a retirement planning and safe money professional, that I specialize in life insurance products and internet marketing.

My offer is a 15 minute review of your situation to determine if I can help.

During the conversation, if the opportunity presents itself, I will bring up the topic of music.

Is it easy?

No, but it’s simple.

Something that is easy means that little or no effort is involved.  Simple means it is uncomplicated.

I am giving it the effort that is required.  Simply put, I will not give up until I have achieved my self-fulfilling prophecy.

My roadblock

I realized what I wanted to do but had no clue how to go about it or where to begin.

I thought I could figure it out for myself so I just started stumbling along.

I thought I knew how to create a website on my own without any sort of training.  I later learned how to build a website free from someone who actually knows how it’s done.

Along the way, I heard about affiliate marketing but had no idea how to get started there either.

I learned that getting started was easy but if I want to get what I want or where I want to go it makes sense to take some direction from someone who knows what they’re talking about and what they’re doing.

I learned that I need help and if you want help for your business you need to look for it ask for it.

My biggest roadblock was and still is me.

I had to learn to get out of my own way, take direction, unlearn what I think I know, be open-minded, be willing to make mistakes, and to keep going no matter what.

I had to learn to practice tenacity like never before.

The saying

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going”

took on new meaning.

My solution

After searching different methods and spending a lot of money trying to get the information and help I want and need, I found there is a place where I could get 7 days free internet marketing training that would allow me to get my feet wet before spending any money.

It was explained to me that during the 7 day trial period, I would be able to receive most of the benefits of premium membership but if I wanted the full benefit of premium membership, I would have to pay for it when the 7 days expired.

On the other hand, it was explained to me that if I wanted to remain as a free member I could do it and that I would even be able to keep the two free websites that are part of the free trial.

I wondered what the catch was.

I asked what it cost for premium membership and was told it was $47 per month and there are no contracts to sign.  I pay as I go.

I was also told that there is an introductory first-month premium membership that is only $19.

I thought to myself, I wonder what I can learn in 5 weeks for $19 (one week free and four weeks of premium membership).

I decided it was worth a try.

It’s become my main source of information and learning since March, 2015.

I also learned that if I pay for membership by the year there is a 36% discount off the monthly price.  After a few months I paid for a full year.

I have not regretted one minute or one cent.
